Evaluation of Snapdragon X Elite’s Initial Test Results: Impressive Multi-thread Performance and Battery Superiority Outshining Apple M3.

The latest PC model using the Snapdragon X Elite chipset has just been unveiled but has not yet hit the market (Surface Pro 11 to be released on June 18). Thus, we are still left wondering whether the Snapdragon X Elite chip truly delivers the claimed performance or not. In the meantime, let’s speculate a bit.

Tom’s Hardware website unearthed documents from Signal65 company commissioned by Microsoft to test these new “AI PCs.” From the findings, we can somewhat gauge how the Snapdragon X Elite performs, though it may not be a 100% comprehensive test.

Signal65’s tests compared hardware from 5 models with different processors including x86 and Arm, such as Surface Laptop 7 (Snapdragon X Elite), Surface Laptop 5 (Core i7-1255U), Surface Pro 9 5G (Microsoft SQ3), MSI Prestige 16 AI Evo (Core Ultra 7 155H), and MacBook Air 15 (Apple M3).

Using benchmarks like Geekbench and Cinebench 2024, the results showed that the Apple M3 excelled in raw power. However, the Snapdragon X Elite outperformed in multitasking aspects.

In terms of video encoding, the x86 Core Ultra 7 155H chip performed better than its counterparts in a leap (Intel still has a standing).

Running benchmarks with Chrome, the Apple M3 surpassed its competitors by a considerable margin in Speedometer v3.0 and JetStream 2.2.

For the GPU, measured by 3DMark, the Apple M3 won in 2 out of 3 tests (unable to run in 1 test), while the Snapdragon X Elite followed closely. This may suggest that the Adreno GPU in Snapdragon X Elite is not quite as strong as its competitors.

The selling point of the Snapdragon X Elite lies in its NPU, which currently boasts a 45 TOPS performance, surpassing its industry peers and leaving them in the dust.

Battery-wise, when tested with Procyon benchmarks, the Snapdragon X Elite outperformed its PC counterparts (Apple M3 unable to run this benchmark).

When it comes to continuous video playback on the device, Snapdragon X Elite emerged victorious over all competitors, even the Apple M3.

TLDR: The new PC model with Snapdragon X Elite chipset shows promising performance in multitasking and AI capabilities, outperforming competitors in various benchmarks.
