Reports have emerged that website administrators hosting on WordPress.org have discovered an additional confirmation checkbox on the login page, indicating no affiliation with WP Engine, whether financially or otherwise. Failure to confirm will result in the inability to access the admin page.
This issue stems from ongoing tension between Matt Mullenweg, the owner of Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com, and WP Engine, a WordPress hosting provider. Mullenweg referred to WP Engine as the “cancer of the WordPress world,” subsequently blocking access from WP Engine’s servers and proposing increased trademark fees or community support.
However, the additional confirmation checkbox on the login page has now been removed. Following this, a discussion unfolded in the WordPress developer community Slack channel regarding the origin of this checkbox. In response, Matt stated that this was part of the ban on WP Engine.
