IBM has announced the expansion of its Watsonx artificial intelligence services that were introduced in 2023. Originally, it was limited to Watsonx Code Assistant for Z, which assists in converting COBOL code on mainframes and Red Hat Ansible Lightspeed to other associated services.
The new addition, Watsonx Code Assistant for Enterprise Java Applications, enhances Java code specifically for IBM’s enterprise customers. An example of its usage includes transforming IBM WebSphere apps into IBM WebSphere Liberty.
Watsonx Orchestrate involves low-code command writing for internal organizational workflows, utilizing the LLM model to simplify operations. Currently, there are two separate offerings: Watsonx Assistant for Z, a chatbot for answering user queries on the Z mainframe to aid in training on commands and systems, and D&B Ask Procurement, a chatbot assisting procurement departments in analyzing supply chain data.
The Watsonx platform also allows for the integration of LLM models from other companies, in addition to IBM’s own Granite model. Some of the announced models include Mistral AI, Allam with Arabic language LLM, and Meta Llama 3.
TLDR: IBM expands Watsonx AI services to include Java application enhancement and low-code workflow automation, alongside chatbot assistants for Z mainframe users and procurement departments, with the ability to integrate LLM models from various companies.
