Microsoft provides additional details about Windows 10’s end-of-support on October 14, 2025, almost two years from now. After this date, there will be no bug fixes, security patches, or other updates. In light of this, organizations and users are advised to plan for an update to Windows 11.
Windows 10’s final feature update, Windows 10 22H2, was released in April. From now until 2025, only security patches will be available as scheduled.
However, for organizations that still need to remain on Windows 10 after the end of support, Microsoft offers an option similar to what was available for Windows 7. This option is called Extended Security Updates (ESU), which requires an annual payment. By continuing to pay, users can extend the update support for an additional three years, receiving monthly security updates. ESU registration is required for PCs to receive these updates.
The pricing details for Windows 10 ESU have not been announced yet. It remains to be seen if Microsoft will follow the yearly pricing model like with Windows 7, designed to incentivize upgrading to a newer Windows version. Microsoft has also mentioned that this ESU option will be available for individual users as well.
TLDR: Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. Users are recommended to plan an update to Windows 11. Extended Security Updates (ESU) will be available for organizations that need to remain on Windows 10, extending security updates for an additional three years with a yearly payment. Pricing details for ESU have not been announced yet.
