External Individuals Unrelated: Apple Application Facilitates Comprehensive Monitoring of Residence, Phone Location, Configuration to Determine European Origins Before Granting Store Access

After Apple’s announcement of their new policy in compliance with the DMA law, which requires large companies to open up their systems to other service providers, the question remains on how Apple will conduct their inspections in order to allow downloads of external stores on their devices.

According to 9to5mac, there’s a process called countryd in iOS that has been in use since iOS 16.2. However, it appears that this process doesn’t serve any purpose. This process checks certain conditions, such as the billing address of the Apple ID, a rough location check for country verification, the device’s region settings, and the product group that Apple verifies to determine if the device is from China, as these devices won’t be able to use external stores.

This level of inspection makes it difficult for average users to deceive iOS, as they would have to fake their phone’s location. Even using a VPN wouldn’t be able to trick the location check. However, if in the future other countries implement policies similar to the European Union, Apple may provide a more convenient feature to access external stores.

TLDR: Apple’s new policy requires large companies to open up their systems, but the process used by Apple to inspect and allow the use of external stores on their devices makes it difficult for average users to deceive. However, if other countries implement similar policies as the European Union, Apple may provide a more convenient feature to access external stores.
