Farewell WordPad: Microsoft Extracts it from Windows 11 Insider

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26020 (Canary Channel) with significant changes for general users. In this update, WordPad has been removed from Windows 11 in the case of a clean install, as it has been deprecated. Users are encouraged to use the People feature in New Outlook as a replacement for the People app, which was previously used as an address book. Additionally, the Steps Recorder app, which has been present since Windows 7, has been deprecated and users are advised to use alternative screen recording apps such as Snipping Tool, Xbox Game Bar, or Microsoft Clipchamp.

A new Energy Saver icon has been added to the System Tray for desktop PCs without batteries, allowing users to switch to power-saving mode. Furthermore, the Settings > Printer page now includes the ability to temporarily pause printing for instances where ink needs to be changed or the printer requires maintenance.

In the Nearby sharing settings, users can now change the name of their PC to make it visible to others when sharing data across devices.
