Female Working Professionals 30-60 Years Old: Cyber Detectives Unveil 2 out of 3 Victims as Targets.

The latest online crime statistics from the Cybercrime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) between March 2022 and June 2024 revealed intriguing data. Over 575,500 Thai individuals have fallen prey to cybercriminals, resulting in accumulated damages surpassing 65,715 million baht, averaging a daily loss of 80 million baht. A staggering 64% of these cases targeted working-age women, ranging from middle-aged to elderly, between 30 to 60 years old, with over 248,800 cases reported.

Gogolook, a leading TrustTech technology company, developer of the Whoscall app – an application that identifies unknown incoming calls and protects against smartphone spam, collaborated with the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) to launch a video campaign #NobodyCutsLinesLikeYourMom to raise awareness during the Mother’s Day festival and distribute free Whoscall Premium codes for two months from today until August 31, 2024.

Ms. Manoprapa Ratnakankaporn, Head of Marketing at Gogolook (Thailand) Co., Ltd., emphasized the importance of safeguarding mothers and the elderly from cybercriminals. She highlighted the lack of awareness and proficiency in using complex technology as major reasons why older individuals are targeted by cybercriminals. Whoscall has become one of Thailand’s most popular apps for preventing cyber threats, making it an essential tool in protecting against cybercrime. Therefore, this Mother’s Day, they have joined forces with the CCIB to advocate vigilant monitoring against cyber threats and distribute free Whoscall Premium codes as valuable gifts for loved ones.

Lt. Col. Dr. Purimpat Thannapanthasiri, Deputy Director of TCSD1, representing the Technology Crime Suppression Division, commented on the increasing awareness among Thai citizens regarding the different forms of cybercrime. However, the older generation, including mothers and the elderly, are often at a higher risk. The most prevalent online scams targeting working-age women and elder individuals made ‘investment scams through computer systems’ the costliest cybercrime in Thailand, amassing nearly 70 billion baht in damages. Collaborating with Whoscall is crucial during this critical period of escalating cyber threats, as they work together to protect communities and safeguard the most vulnerable groups, like the elderly.

TLDR: Cybercrime statistics show an alarming trend with over 575,500 Thai victims and significant financial losses, targeting mainly working-age women and elderly individuals. Collaborative efforts with Whoscall aim to raise awareness and protect against cyber threats, especially for vulnerable groups like the elderly.
