Brendan Greene, also known as “PlayerUnknown,” who created the game PUBG, resigned from Krafton to establish his own studio, PlayerUnknown Productions, in 2021. He announced plans to develop a new game called Prologue, which falls into the open-world genre.
Nearly four years later, PlayerUnknown Productions revealed a new trailer for Prologue: Go Wayback, the official title of the game. It will be available for Early Access on Steam in mid-2025. Prologue: Go Wayback is a single-player survival game set in a jungle environment, where players must navigate treacherous surroundings and harsh weather conditions. The backdrop features a picturesque jungle landscape, powered by AI to provide a unique gameplay experience for each player.
The focus of Prologue is on realistic survival elements, including factors like body temperature, humidity, energy from food intake, and the necessity of tools for exploring the jungle. Weather conditions constantly change, challenging players’ abilities.
Greene shared with VentureBeat that Prologue marks the company’s first step, blending Unreal Engine with machine learning technology to create maps and environments. The next goal is to develop their own engine named Melba and implement it in two future games. One of these games, codenamed Project Artemis, is a sandbox-style game.
TLDR: Brendan Greene left Krafton to establish PlayerUnknown Productions and develop the open-world game Prologue. The game focuses on realistic survival elements and innovative technology integration. Future projects include developing their own engine and releasing sandbox games.
