Founder of Telegram Reveals Over 900 Million User Accounts – Company Expected to Turn Profit Next Year.

Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, recently spoke to the Financial Times and disclosed the platform’s impressive user data. Currently, there are over 900 million accounts, generating “hundreds of millions of dollars” in revenue per year through advertising and subscription fees. The company is expected to turn profitable starting next year.

Durov cited the need for a more lucrative revenue model, as the company aims to maintain operational independence. Despite receiving lucrative offers from investors valuing the business at $30 billion, Telegram is more inclined towards an IPO route. This approach would allow investors to receive shares in exchange for a relatively small sum of money.

Two years ago, Telegram introduced a subscription system called Telegram Premium, which quickly garnered over 1 million subscribers. Additionally, revenue is being generated through ad revenue sharing with channel owners, with plans to expand this service globally and cater to ads of all sizes.

In addition to the mentioned revenue model, Telegram is also exploring other business models such as the TON blockchain project, which expands into identity verification and cryptocurrency wallets.

TLDR: Pavel Durov shared insights with the Financial Times about Telegram’s massive user base and revenue streams, with plans for profitability in the near future. Telegram’s diverse revenue models include advertising, subscriptions, and upcoming ventures in blockchain technology.
