Bungie has generously offered the classic Marathon Trilogy on Steam, starting with the release of Marathon in 1994, now available on Steam. The next two installments, Marathon 2 (1995) and Marathon Infinity (1996), have their Steam pages up and will follow suit.
The Marathon Trilogy, a first-person shooter game from the 90s on Macintosh computers (often compared to Doom on PCs), has historically only been ported to PC for the second installment, with the first and third installments exclusive to Mac. Later on, iOS versions were released. Therefore, this current release of the entire trilogy on PC is a rare opportunity for many to experience this classic game series.
The Classic Marathon PC version was developed by a community group known as the Aleph One Developers, named after the engine used in Marathon 2 and subsequently applied to the first game, now open-source.
Bungie recently announced a new installment in the Marathon series for 2023, planned for release on current-gen consoles and PC, but the launch has been pushed back to 2025.
