French Government Charges Founder of Unresponsive Telegram for Government Request, Platform Facilitating Legal Violations

The progress of the Pavel Durov case, founder and CEO of Telegram, being arrested in France. Most recently, the prosecution in Paris has officially charged Durov with 6 counts:

Overseeing an online platform that facilitates illegal transactions
Ignoring requests from legal authorities
Failure to respond to requests from state agencies in cases related to drug trafficking and hate speech
Money laundering
Providing encryption services without notifying the government as per French law
Providing encryption tools without notifying the government as per French law

These charges echo previous statements made by French officials. There are unconfirmed reports that French authorities have also issued an arrest warrant for Nikolai Durov, Pavel’s brother and co-founder of Telegram.
