French Regulator Fines Google 9.8 Billion Baht for Training AI with News Content without Prior Notification

Once again, Google has been officially ordered by the French competition watchdog (Autorité de la concurrence) to pay a fine of 250 million euros, or approximately 9.8 billion baht, for copyright violations related to news content used to train AI without notification.

In 2021, Google was also fined 500 million euros by France for failing to negotiate and pay publishers for displaying their content on its platform.

Regarding the latest fine, Google has stated that it will not contest and will pay the fine, citing the need to move forward. The company aims to deliver quality news content to users and is willing to collaborate with French news agencies on this matter.
