Fujitsu CEO Issues Profuse Apology for Software Mishap Leading to Legal Proceedings; UK Government Pledges £45 Billion in Compensation

Fujitsu CEO, Takahito Tokita, has issued an apology for the software bug in Horizon that led to hundreds of postal workers in the United Kingdom facing legal action. Describing the incident as a significant matter, Tokita affirms Fujitsu’s commitment to addressing the issue seriously.

Currently, there are approximately 980 individuals within the postal service who have been affected by the litigation, with the potential for thousands more to come forward seeking compensation. Some postal agents have already agreed to settle in order to avoid further legal consequences. Nick Read, the CEO of the UK postal service, estimates that the total damage costs could reach around £1 billion or approximately 45,000 million baht. Kevin Hollinrake, the minister responsible for the postal service, has proposed a compensation plan of £600,000 per affected individual. However, it is acknowledged that this lawsuit may inadvertently allow certain fraudulent individuals to evade prosecution and receive compensation.
