Future Production Plan for Sony’s CD-R and BD-R Discs: Targeted Sales to Business Clients, Phasing Out Consumer Sales

Previously, there were reports that Sony has laid off 250 employees at its custom optical disc manufacturing factory in Japan, producing CD-R, CD-RW, and BD-R discs, as part of a production capacity reduction plan due to decreasing demand. Recently, Sony provided further details, stating that the company has no plans to relocate the manufacturing facility to another country. The production of custom optical discs will continue, with future plans to announce sales holiday for general customers. Currently, negotiations are underway with distributors for the plan. Moving forward, the focus will be on supplying custom optical discs to business-to-business (B2B) customers.

For B2B customers who continue to order Blu-Ray discs, they primarily belong to the film industry, utilizing the discs for their production needs.
