Futurists Fret Over Apple Arcade’s Destiny Amid Rumors of Game Cancellations

Information from Mobilegamer.biz reveals that several game developers are beginning to express concerns about the future of Apple Arcade, the monthly subscription gaming service on Apple’s platform. The main reason behind this is due to rumors that Apple is canceling the development of some games, reducing developers’ compensation, and shifting focus towards Apple Original games.

In the early stages after the launch of Apple Arcade in 2019, it was disclosed that the upfront payment for games on Arcade was high enough for most games to break even from day one. However, the amount of compensation has been gradually reduced since then, and there have been indications that Apple is almost ceasing approval of Apple Original games and emphasizing on family-friendly games based on popular existing IPs in the market.

Some game developers who have met with Apple to discuss bringing their games to Arcade feel confused about the direction of Arcade. One of them mentioned that Apple Arcade feels like it’s dying, while others feel like Apple is uncertain about what to do with this service. Even the Apple team themselves are unsure if they will continue working on it.
