Today is a somber occasion as Versus Evil, a reputable distributor of exceptional indie games like Banner Saga (Stoic Studio) and Pillars of Eternity (Obsidian Entertainment), has announced the cessation of its operations on Steam after a decade-long journey from 2013 to 2023.
Regrettably, all 13 employees of Versus Evil have been indefinitely laid off, which adds further distress to this untimely announcement, delivered just three days before Christmas.
This decision to close down comes as a result of TinyBuild, the parent company of Versus Evil, stepping in to acquire their operations back in 2021. Although TinyBuild has been a noted distributor of independent games since 2011, their recent financial challenges and failed fundraising attempts have forced them to shut down Versus Evil, leaving the dedicated employees without jobs.
TLDR: After ten successful years, Versus Evil, a prominent indie game distributor, has sadly closed its doors on Steam. Following the acquisition by TinyBuild, financial struggles have led to the unfortunate termination of Versus Evil’s operations and the untimely layoff of its employees.
