The Gemini app on Android smartphones has started to roll out extensions for controlling smart home devices via the Google Home platform. Initially lacking in features for controlling and commanding external apps and devices similar to what Google Assistant could do, Google has been gradually opening up usage through extensions. Recently, they released Utilities Extension for commanding various apps on smartphones.
The new feature, Google Home Extension, must be enabled in the Settings section of the Gemini app. Once activated, users can command Gemini to turn on lights, adjust air conditioning, close blinds, control the TV, adjust speaker volume, and more, just like they would through the Google Home app.
However, this feature currently does not support using closed-circuit cameras to display video on Gemini (similar to Google Home app) and does not yet support Routines features like those in Google Assistant.
Both extensions are slowly becoming available for use. Upon testing with my own Gemini account, I found that neither feature is currently usable.

TLDR: Gemini app on Android now supports Google Home extensions for smart home device control. Some features are still in development, such as camera integration and Routines support.
