It is widely known that ChatGPT is more popular than Gemini, albeit to a significant degree (one reason being its earlier arrival), but nobody knows the exact numbers. The latest data from the Taos Garden Investigation Department (akin to Google paying a hefty sum to Samsung to preload Gemini) reveals Google’s disclosure of Gemini user statistics to the court as follows:
Daily Active Users (DAU): 35 million users
Monthly Active Users (MAU): 350 million users
These numbers are as of March 2025, which have increased from the previous data Google disclosed to the court in October 2024, stating 9 million DAU and 90 million MAU. In comparison to OpenAI’s previously publicized data, citing 400 million users weekly and Meta AI with 500 million monthly users (Meta’s counting method may include users in various social chat apps utilizing Meta AI as well, making a direct comparison challenging). In Google’s documentation, they estimate ChatGPT has 600 million monthly users, but this is not an official figure from OpenAI.
