YouTube’s 10th anniversary celebration in Thailand has been a remarkable journey since its domain youtube.co.th was launched in 2014. According to Google and Kantar’s survey of 2,204 respondents in the latter half of 2023, YouTube has been recognized as the top video platform.
The significant changes over the past 10 years include the rise of Diamond-level channels, exceeding 10 million subscribers, which have increased to 21 channels. Gold-level channels, surpassing 1 million subscribers, have grown to over 1,000 channels, and Silver-level channels, with more than 100,000 subscribers, have surpassed 10,000 channels.
YouTube’s partners shared insights at the event, with Workpoint stating that over 20% of their viewers are international, while GMM Music found that utilizing Shorts has boosted viewership of their main videos. Moreover, Thai audiences have increasingly turned to streaming services, making it a vital pathway for music consumption.
Mukapim Anantasai, Head of YouTube’s Business Partnerships in Thailand and Vietnam, emphasized YouTube’s global platform advantage. Despite the previous trend of content creation primarily for domestic viewership, there is a growing shift towards attracting international audiences. YouTube has introduced tools to facilitate content reaching a global audience, such as the recent addition of multilingual audio capabilities.
