Global IT Spending Forecasted to Increase by 9.8% Worldwide, Despite GenAI’s Influence on Investments Not Being Directly Linked

Gartner predicts that global IT spending in 2025 will grow by 9.8% from the previous year, reaching a staggering $5.61 trillion. Generative AI will influence IT investments, but spending will not be directly for Generative AI.

The categories with the highest growth are data center systems (23.2%), software (14.2%), and devices (10.4%), largely due to hardware upgrades for Generative AI, although no significant differences in functionality have been observed even with the new hardware.

While Generative AI garners interest in investments, CIOs have lower expectations for actual usage, as newer AI-ready PCs lack necessary applications that can leverage the hardware efficiently.

Furthermore, investments in AI-optimized servers will reach $2.02 trillion, exceeding traditional server investments twofold, which will likely transform the business market in the coming years.

Additionally, the Thai market will witness increased spending, with a value near $9.96 trillion Baht (approximately $2.9 trillion) marking a 7.9% increase from the previous year. The categories showing the highest growth are data center (almost 17%) followed by software (16.1%).

TLDR: Gartner predicts a significant increase in global IT spending by 2025, with Generative AI influencing investments but not directly benefiting from the spending. Thai market also sees a notable rise in spending, particularly in data centers and software categories.
