Microsoft has a sales plan for Microsoft 365 that excludes Teams, aiming to sell them separately, impacting users globally. This decision follows Microsoft’s sales of Microsoft 365 in this format to EU countries to avoid accusations of bundling.
Previously, Microsoft faced complaints from Slack in the EU for bundling Teams in Microsoft 365, which led to an investigation by the EU in July last year. Microsoft then decided to introduce a separate sales option for Microsoft 365 with Teams in the following month, but it only applies to EU countries.
A Microsoft representative stated that, for clarity to customers, the company will offer Microsoft 365 and Office 365 without Teams as an option, expanding beyond existing EU countries to global markets. This decision partly stems from the European Commission’s observation that companies operating in multiple countries should be able to purchase software globally the same way.
Microsoft will now offer Microsoft 365 and Office 365 without Teams for enterprise customers and a separate Teams sales option for organizations starting from April 1st. Current customers can choose to continue with their existing licenses or switch to the new format, with pricing varying in each country.
