Go Language Climbs to Number 8 in TIOBE Index, Expected to Secure a Spot in the Prestigious Top 10

The TIOBE Index, which measures the popularity of programming languages, has revealed an intriguing change in their February 2024 update. The language Go has surged into the Top 10 for the first time, catapulting from its previous position at 11 to an impressive 8.

Go continues to gain popularity steadily, consistently climbing up the ranks (from 13 in November 2023 to 11 in January 2024). TIOBE speculates that this recent entry into the Top 10 suggests Go’s popularity will endure in the IT industry.

The top five languages remain unchanged, with Python, C, C++, Java, and C# holding their positions in order. However, JavaScript and SQL have overtaken Visual Basic, which has now dropped to the 9th spot, occupying the 6th and 7th positions, respectively.

Another language making significant strides this month is Fortran. It swiftly rose from 24th place to claim the 11th spot. Additionally, Carbon, a new language from Google aiming to replace C++, has entered the Top 100.

TLDR: The TIOBE Index for February 2024 sees Go breaking into the Top 10 for the first time, surging from 11th to 8th. Python, C, C++, Java, and C# maintain their top five positions. JavaScript and SQL surpass Visual Basic, while Fortran and Carbon make unexpected gains.
