After Google and Samsung announced the merger of Nearby Share and Quick Share, Android blogger Mishaal Rahman reported that Google has begun releasing an update for Nearby Share, now rebranded as Quick Share. As expected with Google’s usual style, the update process has been slow. Furthermore, the update is only available for non-Galaxy devices, as Samsung will handle its own separate update.
On the other hand, Samsung has announced the update on their Korean language forum, providing details on the new version of Quick Share that integrates with Nearby Share. This update is set to be released on February 1st through the Galaxy Store. Once the Google update is completed in mid-February, the original Nearby Share button will be removed, leaving only the Quick Share icon.
This update will allow Samsung’s Quick Share on mobile devices to connect and share files with the PC version of Google’s Nearby Share. Samsung also reveals that the integration of Quick Share and Nearby Share for PC apps is scheduled for Q3 of 2024. Therefore, we will need to wait a little longer for the completion of this entire integration process.
TLDR: Google is slowly releasing an update that rebrands Nearby Share as Quick Share, with the update currently only available for non-Galaxy devices. Samsung will release their update through the Galaxy Store on February 1st. Once complete, Quick Share will replace the Nearby Share button. Samsung also plans to integrate Quick Share and Nearby Share for PC apps by Q3 of 2024.
