Google Announces Support for Model Context Protocol in Gemini

Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, and Demis Hassabis, the CEO of Google DeepMind, have announced Google’s support for the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to integrate external data sources into the LLM model.

Introduced by Anthropic at the end of 2024, MCP recently gained support from OpenAI, solidifying its position as an industry standard. Hassabis praised MCP as a robust protocol that Google will back for its Gemini models and SDK, expressing interest in further collaboration with the MCP team and industry players. However, Google has yet to disclose a timeline for implementing MCP.

MCP is gaining traction as an open standard in the AI space, with Google affirming its commitment to integrating it into their models and SDK. The future looks promising for the development of MCP in collaboration with key industry players.

TLDR: Google’s top executives endorse the Model Context Protocol, heralding it as an essential component for advancing AI technologies.
