Last week, Google unveiled Gemini and released its Android version (currently only available for download in the United States). One interesting aspect is that installing Gemini on Android disables the original Google Assistant (in line with Google’s new direction, where Gemini replaces both Bard, Assistant, and DuetAI). Saying “Hey Google” or holding down the home button will summon Gemini instead of Assistant.
However, the issue is that the Gemini app does not yet have all the features of the original Assistant, such as playing music or podcasts from other apps, Routines, Reminders, and even translation commands.
Google acknowledges this problem. Jack Krawczyk, Google’s VP of Artificial Intelligence, tweeted that they are actively working to address the various shortcomings of Gemini, both in terms of missing Assistant features and other functionalities like coding. They also aim to expand the availability of the Gemini app to other countries as quickly as possible.

TLDR: Google introduced Gemini, an Android app that replaces Google Assistant on compatible devices. While Gemini offers some intriguing features, such as a unique writing style and creative assistance, it currently lacks certain functionalities like music playback from other apps and language translation. Google recognizes these gaps and plans to improve Gemini’s capabilities, including releasing it in more countries.
