Google Employees Face Dismissal Following Controversial Cloud Contract Protest with Israeli Government

28 Google employees were fired after being involved in various protest methods following Google’s contract in the Project Nimbus initiative to provide the Israeli government with a $1.2 billion cloud rental (including Amazon’s cloud).

Some employees at the Sunnyvale office in California seized the workspace of Thomas Kurian, the CEO of Google Cloud, to protest. Meanwhile, employees at the New York office gathered for a protest in the central area of the 10th floor. Google had to use police force to escort them out and maintain order.

Google sent letters to all employees, claiming that the aforementioned group of employees violated workplace policies and ethics, stating that the company will not tolerate such behavior.

Employees who participated in the No Tech for Apartheid campaign, which opposes Google’s support for Israel, issued a statement condemning Google’s retaliation, stating that they had demanded answers regarding Project Nimbus for over 3 years without any response from management. They emphasize that employees have the right to demand fair employment conditions.
