Google Invests in FireSat Satellite Constellation for High-Resolution 5×5 Meter Forest Fire Imaging, Launching in Early 2025.

Google has announced its investment in the FireSat satellite project designed to capture images of forest fires.
The FireSat satellite project is a low earth orbit (LEO) satellite project by the non-profit Earth Fire Alliance group, aimed at addressing the global lack of real-time forest fire data.
The FireSat satellite fleet consists of a total of 50 satellites, capable of capturing high-resolution, meter-level accuracy images every 20 minutes, enhancing the efficiency of addressing and combating forest fires.
The satellites will be manufactured by Muon Space, with funding from Google.org, the non-profit arm of Google, providing $13 million, and additional support from the Moore Foundation by Gordon Moore.
Google is also supporting the FireSat project through collaboration with the Google Research team to develop sensors for the satellites to better detect small-scale forest fires (5×5 meter grid areas) using AI to compare satellite images for any changes indicating fire, enabling faster notifications to local agencies.
The first FireSat satellite will be launched in early 2025, with additional satellites in the fleet to follow.
