In May 2023, Google announced the Find My Device service to locate various devices offline using the Bluetooth network of Android devices worldwide, similar to Apple’s Find My feature.
However, Google’s plan was delayed as they aimed to collaborate with Apple in implementing privacy protection measures to prevent unwanted tracker detection. While the Android side already had it, they had to wait for iOS to support it first.
The delay in waiting for Apple to enhance their own tracking protection system has caused Google’s Find My Device to be pushed back for a long time, leading many to forget about it. Recently, after almost a year has passed, Google has started sending emails to users notifying them of the network activation of Find My Devices on April 7-8, 2024. Users who do not wish to participate in the Find My Device network can choose to Opt out as desired.

TLDR: Google delays Find My Device launch to implement privacy measures and collaborates with Apple; users can Opt out of network participation.
