After undergoing testing since the end of 2024, Google recently released the Wear OS 5.1 update, which is based on Android 15 (note that Wear OS 5.0 was based on Android 14) for the entire Pixel Watch series (1-2-3). This update was accompanied by a monthly update in March 2025, following the software update policy for every quarter.
Google did not specify the specific new features in Wear OS 5.1, but the software update brings many new features such as improved audio control (Podcast/YouTube Music), enhanced step counting accuracy for unconventional activities (e.g. pushing a stroller or walking with a child in a stroller).
The Pixel Watch 2 includes the Auto Bedtime feature, which automatically detects when you fall asleep and wake up. On the other hand, the Pixel Watch 3 introduces additional features such as menstrual health tracking and Loss of Pulse Detection for monitoring irregular heartbeats, along with emergency response notifications. The latter feature is currently only available in the United States after FDA approval.
