Google has reported on the payment of rewards for researchers who reported vulnerabilities in the Vulnerability Reward Program (VRP) in 2023, distributing a total of 10 million dollars to 632 researchers from 68 countries. This figure is a decrease from 2022 when Google paid out 12 million dollars. The highest payout to a single researcher in the past year was $113,337. The total cumulative amount paid out by Google since the inception of the program in 2010 is $59 million.
Within the VRP, payments for reporting bugs and vulnerabilities in Android totalled 3.4 million dollars, including Wear OS in the past year. Chrome received 2.1 million dollars for reporting a total of 359 vulnerabilities. The newly added Generative AI received a total of 35 reports and was paid out $87,000.
