Google Unveils Experimental ‘Ask For Me’ Feature, Allowing AI to Inquire About Availability for Nail Salons and Auto Repair Shops

Google has introduced a new feature for users called “Ask for me.” This feature utilizes AI to make calls to businesses on behalf of the user, such as inquiring about available appointment times or service prices.

However, this feature is currently limited to the United States and only supports calls conducted in English. It is part of Google’s Labs section.

Initially, Ask for me only supported calls to nail salons and auto repair shops. When prompted to make a call, Google’s AI will engage in a conversation that closely resembles human speech. It will then send a summary of the information gathered from the business within 30 minutes of the call ending.

This feature operates on Google Duplex, which is capable of making restaurant reservations and asking businesses about the availability of specific items in stock.
