Google has unveiled the Home API for developers to access the Google Home platform. In addition to the API, there is a new feature called Home Runtime, which allows hardware devices to run on other devices, turning them into smart home control hubs. The devices that will support Home Runtime include Google TV version 14 and above, Chromecast with Google TV, and LG’s webOS-powered smart TVs, marking the first time devices from different brands are supporting this feature.
LG’s direction this year seems to be more focused on Google, with their smart TVs expected to support Chromecast by 2024, as previously announced. Furthermore, LG has declared that their ThinQ mobile app will also be able to connect with the Home API.
