Government of Pakistan Releases List of Tax Evaders Online, Orders Mobile Signal Disconnection Until Payment Cleared.

In April of last year, the Pakistani government publicly disclosed a list of over 506,000 individuals believed to be tax evaders in a PDF file consisting of more than 8,737 pages on the internet, along with mobile SIM information, instructing telecom companies and service providers to block the mobile signals of all individuals on the list.

Muhammad Aurangzeb, the Minister of Finance, revealed a plan to impose a penalty of 100 million rupees (around 13 million dollars) on any service provider who fails to block the SIM signals of those on the list who are not paying taxes.

The urgency of Pakistan’s actions stems from the country’s significant debt to the IMF, prompting efforts to reform the economy for growth and stability.
