Government of United States Grants TSMC $6.6 Billion for Third Factory in Arizona

The United States government has announced preliminary agreements to provide a maximum funding of 6.6 billion dollars under the CHIPS Act to support the establishment of chip manufacturing plants in the country. The renowned chip manufacturer from Taiwan, TSMC, will be involved in this partnership, with an additional loan of 5 billion dollars.

Within this agreement, TSMC will construct its third plant in Phoenix, Arizona, with an investment of 65 billion dollars. It is projected to create a total of 25,000 jobs, both in construction and within the factory, as well as generate numerous opportunities for suppliers.

Furthermore, there is an additional investment of 50 billion dollars aimed at supporting training and development of the workforce in the area, ensuring that labor does not have to relocate to high-wage innovation jobs in other cities.

TSMC currently has plans for three manufacturing plants in Arizona. The first plant is set to commence operations in 2025, producing 4-nanometer technology chips. The second plant will manufacture 2-nanometer chips, deviating from the previous announcement of 3-nanometer chips, with production scheduled to begin in 2028. As for the third plant mentioned in this announcement, it aims to produce 2-nanometer chips, showcasing more advanced technology expected to begin production in 2030.
