HDMI Connectivity Solution by Meta Quest: Linking Devices to Headsets for Enhanced Display Experience

Meta has introduced a new app, the Meta Quest HDMI Link, for their Quest series VR headsets. This app supports the Quest 3, 2, and Pro models, as the name suggests. It allows users to use their Quest headset as a display screen by connecting it with an HDMI cable. This enables compatibility with not only gaming consoles and computers but also display devices for videos.

Previously, Meta Quest supported display mirroring from computers via Air Link, a wireless connection through Wi-Fi. However, the HDMI Link app has been released to cater to a wider range of devices and usage scenarios.

For a wired connection with the HDMI Link app, additional hardware is necessary. Users need a signal converter adapter, such as a Capture Card, to convert the signal to HDMI from the source device. This device is then connected to the Quest using a USB-A to USB-C cable, which may require additional power input.

The image resolution for 2D content is limited to 1080p at 60fps, as stated by Meta. Despite this limitation, they claim that with low latency, it can still support the use of supplementary display screens.
