Hideaki Nishino Appointed as CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment: A New Era Begins

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), the parent company of PlayStation, has appointed Hideaki Nishino as the CEO. This appointment follows the news back in May 2024 when Nishino and Hermen Hulst were appointed as co-CEOs, with Nishino overseeing the hardware platform business and Hulst managing the software game development side.

The announcement solidifies Nishino as the sole CEO of SIE, taking over the platform business CEO position from before. Hulst will remain in his previous role, now reporting to Nishino as a subsidiary. These changes will take effect on April 1, 2025.

Nishino has been with Sony since 2000, and his appointment as CEO marks a return to having a Japanese CEO at SIE, following John Kodera from 2017-2021 and Jim Ryan from 2019-2024.

Additionally, Hiroki Totoki, the chairman of SIE’s board, has also announced his resignation to take on the role of CEO of the parent company, Sony. The appointment of a new chairman for SIE will be announced later.

TLDR: Sony Interactive Entertainment appoints Hideaki Nishino as CEO, marking a return to having a Japanese CEO at the helm. Hermen Hulst remains in his role as a subsidiary, while Hiroki Totoki steps down as chairman to become CEO of Sony.
