Hyundai partners with Waymo to deploy driverless electric IONIQ 5 taxis

Waymo, the driverless car company, recently announced a partnership with Hyundai Motor Company to introduce the Hyundai IONIQ 5 SUV electric car for their driverless taxi service, Waymo One.

In a strategic move, Waymo has switched from using Geely Zeekr cars to incorporating Hyundai vehicles into their fleet. The IONIQ 5 will be customized and modified specifically for Waymo’s autonomous driving technology, manufactured at Hyundai’s factory in the United States. Testing on public roads is set to commence by the end of 2025.
