Immediate Effect: VMware Terminates Perpetual License Sales, Exclusively Adopts Subscriptions

VMware, currently owned by Broadcom, has announced a change in the sales format of its licenses, shifting towards a subscription model effective from December 11th onwards. Going forward, VMware will no longer offer perpetual licenses or support and subscription plans for its products. Only subscription-based licenses will be available.

Existing customers who have purchased perpetual licenses and have active support and subscription contracts will still be able to use them according to the terms of their agreements. However, once the contract expires, they will not receive any further support or extensions. Additionally, VMware will reach out to customers to offer the option of trading their perpetual licenses for discounted subscription-based alternatives.

Broadcom explains that this approach is aimed at simplifying the product offerings of VMware and encouraging customers to adopt subscription-based licenses, which is a growing trend in the industry.

In addition, VMware has also announced changes to the details of VMware Cloud Foundation. The hybrid cloud solution designed for large enterprises will now feature reduced pricing, increased support details, and a new solution called VMware vSphere Foundation, which offers streamlined functionalities for medium-sized organizations and even smaller customers.
