Impact of PlayStation Layoffs on Horizon: Call of the Mountain Game Director

Alex Barnes, the director of Horizon: Call of the Mountain, a VR game for the PS VR2 headset set to release in 2022, has revealed that he has been let go from the Firesprite studio under the Sony umbrella. This comes as part of a larger plan to lay off 900 employees in the Sony zone, which was announced back in February.

Barnes mentioned that he has been with Firesprite for almost 7 years and expressed gratitude towards the teams from Firesprite and Guerilla (the main studio responsible for the Horizon franchise) for their collaboration.

It is still unclear how many employees Firesprite has let go, but the direction Sony is taking indicates a shift away from VR game development, which could impact Firesprite as a studio known for its expertise in VR. Rumors have circulated that Sony also canceled a Twisted Metal reboot project and recent rounds of layoffs.
