Inaugural Address by Shigeru Miyamoto at the Unveiling of Nintendo Museum: Embracing our Unique Blueprint, Far Removed from Industry Trends.

Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario, recently granted an interview to Famitsu in light of Nintendo preparing to open the Nintendo Museum on October 2. In a segment discussing the company’s preservation philosophy, Miyamoto emphasized the importance of maintaining their own unique direction within the gaming industry, instead of following every trend or direction set by other companies.

Miyamoto revealed that the items on display in the museum were originally stored in the company’s warehouse, and it was better to showcase these items to everyone, including Nintendo employees. The collection reflects the company’s values, as Nintendo has always chosen to march to the beat of their own drum, away from industry competition or the constant pursuit of cutting-edge technology.

Responding to questions from the past about why Nintendo doesn’t focus on online games, mobile gaming, or using the latest processing chips, Miyamoto explained that the answers could be found within the museum displays. The company does everything in their own time and according to what they deem appropriate, resulting in Nintendo’s unique position in the industry today.

When asked about the possibility of opening museums in other cities besides Kyoto, Miyamoto clarified that the project was not driven by business motives but rather aimed to educate people about Nintendo’s history. Therefore, there are no plans to expand into additional locations.

Recently, the Nintendo Museum opened its doors to a select number of media outlets, showcasing a unique zone called the Bonus Stage, which features a souvenir shop filled with merchandise inspired by various console games. Among the wide array of items, special mention goes to the diverse range of gamepad-designed pillows that can be viewed exclusively at this location.

TLDR: Shigeru Miyamoto discusses Nintendo’s preservation philosophy and the reasons behind the establishment of the Nintendo Museum while emphasizing the company’s unique approach within the gaming industry. The museum offers a glimpse into Nintendo’s history and showcases merchandise inspired by their iconic console games, with no plans for expansion beyond the current location in Kyoto.
