Google has announced a contract to purchase wind energy in Taiwan for use in the Google Cloud data center in Taiwan. This marks Google’s first renewable energy purchase in the Asia-Pacific region. The offshore wind power project, named Fengmiao I, owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, is set to start producing electricity from wind in 2027. Google will utilize this energy in its data centers and offices in Taiwan. Previously, Google had other clean energy projects in Taiwan, such as solar energy and geothermal energy.
International IT companies often have policies requiring the use of renewable energy to minimize environmental impact. This is one of the limitations in Thailand where there may still be enough renewable electricity available for extensive use.
TLDR: Google signs a contract to buy wind energy for its data center in Taiwan, expanding its renewable energy projects in the Asia-Pacific region.
