Inaugural Release of Open Map Data in General Availability by Overture Maps Foundation

The Overture Maps Foundation (OMF) is a collaborative initiative founded by AWS, Meta, and Microsoft to develop open map data for developers to utilize. They have announced the global release of the General Availability (GA) version of the Open Map dataset. This comes after its beta testing phase.

Marc Prioleau, the head of the OMF project, stated that the data in this map set can be customized by developers for various applications. Currently, it is being used for location searches, insurance data, industrial mapping, and is set to be used in the automotive, public transportation, and other industries in the future.

The first dataset of OMF maps includes data on 2.3 million buildings, over 54 million points of interest globally, supports over 40 languages, and distinguishes between land and water layers, catering to specific use cases.
