Innovative iOS 18 Update Introduces ‘Recovered’ Album Feature in Photos App Curating Restored Images and Videos from Corrupted Database

Reports have surfaced about small features added in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia that Apple did not announce at WWDC. The Photos app has introduced a new album named “Recovered” under the Utilities group, which Apple claims is a collection of photos and videos that were lost or damaged previously, now restored and placed in this album.

If you recall, in iOS 17.5, some users found that old photos they had deleted long ago reappeared in Photos, attributed to a corrupted database on the device, which was fixed in iOS 17.5.1. It is expected that “Recovered” addresses this issue effectively, separating the recovered images into a different album for better organization.

For any images or videos fitting this description, the “Recovered” album will appear in the Utilities section near the “Recently Deleted” album. Access to this album requires authentication via Face ID or Touch ID, allowing users the option to restore photos to the main album or delete them permanently.

TLDR: Apple quietly introduces the “Recovered” album in Photos for lost or damaged images and videos, providing a secure and organized way to manage recovered media files.
