In 2017, Nintendo announced that they would release Metroid Prime 4 on the Nintendo Switch in the same year the Switch was launched. However, time passed by slowly, 7 years to be exact, as the new gaming console came close to release but the game was still not available. The last significant development update occurred in 2019 when Nintendo announced a new development reset, and then everything went silent.
In the latest Nintendo Direct event tonight, Nintendo finally unveiled the trailer for Metroid Prime 4, now titled Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The exact meaning of “Beyond” remains unclear, but the game is tentatively scheduled for release in 2025, hopefully without any further delays.
Metroid Prime is a first-person shooter game set in the Metroid universe, originally starting as a side-scrolling 2D game. The original Metroid Prime trilogy was released between 2002-2007 for the Gamecube/Wii era and had been on hiatus for some time. Most recently, in 2023, Nintendo brought back the original Metroid Prime for a remastered version to be sold on the Switch.
TL;DR: After a long wait and development reset, Nintendo finally revealed the trailer for Metroid Prime 4, now titled Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, with a tentative release date set for 2025.
