Over the past few years, Sega has been releasing a series of retro gaming consoles, starting from the Mega Drive Mini in 2018, Game Gear Micro in 2020, and Mega Drive Mini 2 in 2022. As we enter the year 2024, one may wonder what’s next in store.
Yosuke Okunari, a Sega executive, is aware of this question. He recently posted on X, informing Sega fans that the company has no plans to release any more small retro hardware this year. He also advised fans to revisit the company’s announcements from 2022, as there may have been forgotten news from two years ago.
Previously, Okunari hinted at the possibility of a small-sized retro gaming console like the Dreamcast Mini. Meanwhile, Sega conducted a survey asking fans which small console they would like to see, and the response was the Sega Saturn. However, the company mentioned last year that it would be challenging to produce.

TLDR: Sega has no plans to release more small retro gaming consoles this year, and fans are directed to revisit past announcements. Okunari previously hinted at a possible Dreamcast Mini and a survey suggested interest in a Sega Saturn mini console, which Sega deemed difficult to produce.
