Instagram Algorithm Update: Decreasing Reposted Content Points, Amplifying Originality Scores

Instagram has announced updates to its post recommendation algorithm, stating that currently, creators with a large following and accounts that repost content from others frequently will be recommended more than smaller accounts. In many cases, these smaller accounts are the original source of the content. This issue should be rectified to ensure equal opportunity for everyone in post recommendations.

Changes to Instagram’s post recommendation system to address this issue include implementing a new ranking system that promotes posts from smaller creators more prominently. Instead of recommending reposted content, original content will now be featured. Additionally, tags linking back to the original content will be added to reposted content. Accounts that primarily repost content from others will be excluded from post recommendations.

Instagram explained that the previous recommendation system was based on follower engagement with an account’s posts, favoring accounts with higher engagement levels. This new approach will increase visibility for original content, allowing it to be seen more prominently.

TLDR: Instagram is updating its post recommendation algorithm to prioritize original content over reposted content, ensuring a fairer recommendation system for all users.
