Intel Launches Core Ultra Top Seller but Faces Supply Limitations, Testing 18A Chips for Real Sales in 2025

Pat Gelsinger, the CEO of Intel, has outlined the chip business trends in the Q1/2024 earnings call as follows:

The Core Ultra (Meteor Lake) CPU has seen a significant increase in sales with orders doubling in Q2/2024, but Intel is facing manufacturing capacity issues that are expected to be resolved in the latter half of 2024.

By the end of 2024, Intel will introduce two new chips, Lunar Lake (for notebooks) and Arrow Lake (for desktops), alongside the already successful Core Ultra series, collectively known as the “AI PC”, with sales projected to exceed 40 million units.

The Xeon 6 E-core processor, codenamed Sierra Forest and manufactured using the Intel 3 process, is set for release soon, with Granite Rapids (Xeon 6 P-core) to follow in Q3.

The next-gen PC processor, Panther Lake, and Xeon processor, Clearwater Forest, will utilize the Intel 18A process, currently undergoing production testing and expected to be commercially available by mid-2025.

The new AI accelerator chip, Gaudi 3, is now on sale with projected revenues of $500 million in the latter half of this year, increasing in 2025 as Intel is confident in its lower total cost of ownership compared to NVIDIA’s offerings.

Intel has recently split its financial reporting between the chip business (Intel Products) and the foundry business (Intel Foundry), with the chip segment performing strongly with a 17% growth and solid profits, despite heavy losses in the foundry division.
