Intel has confirmed the launch of their new desktop CPU codenamed Lunar Lake or possibly named Core Ultra Series 2 (codenamed 200) hitting the market on September 3rd at IFA 2024 in Germany.
Lunar Lake is a significant product for Intel in the latter half of this year, especially after the x86 notebook market was challenged by Snapdragon X. Intel claims that Lunar Lake can rival in terms of CPU, GPU, and NPU performance. It remains to be seen if it will live up to the hype.
On the desktop CPU front, Intel has Arrow Lake in the pipeline (although the launch date is still undisclosed), which adapts the architecture of their notebook CPUs for desktop use. It’s unclear whether it will be considered part of the 15th Gen or if it will reset the numbering to match the notebook side.
