Interconnecting Japan and Taiwan with Optical Networking: Decreasing Ping to a Remarkable 33.84ms from a Distance of 2,893 Kilometers

NTT and Chunghwa Telecom announce the successful connection of the IOWN APN (Innovative Optical and Wireless Network All-Photonics Network) network across borders from Japan to Taiwan, reducing latency over a distance of 2,893 kilometers to just 33.84ms. This connection links the Chunghwa Telecom headquarters in Taipei with the NTT Musashino research center, achieving a bandwidth of 100Gbps.

NTT has been pushing the development of the All Photonics Network for years, aiming to enhance data transmission efficiency, increase connectivity bandwidth, and minimize latency by utilizing direct light processing chips instead of converting data into electricity like current methods.
