Introducing DOCOMO’s Revolutionary Culinary Simulation Technology: An Unprecedented Innovation for Transmitting and Crafting Taste Sensations

NTT DOCOMO announced a collaboration with Meiji University and H2L to introduce a groundbreaking technology that can replicate taste sensations. This innovative technology relies on food taste data transmitted through DOCOMO’s FEEL TECH platform.

FEEL TECH is a platform that simulates the transmission of sensory information, including sight, taste, smell, sound, and touch, between users. This latest technology from DOCOMO focuses on transmitting taste sensations by utilizing approximately 25 data points to replicate flavors from the five basic tastes (sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami) using 20 different liquids. The result is a taste experience that closely resembles the original, without solely relying on descriptions.

DOCOMO anticipates that this technology can be further applied to virtual reality experiences, as well as in the fields of film and animation, to create more immersive sensory experiences for users. The detailed specifications of this technology will be unveiled by DOCOMO during their Open House event in January next year.
